Google I/O Pinball Game

Let’s take a little break from the usual product reviews, unboxing, and other tech-related articles. Today, I’m going to share with you a cool free online game recently released by Google.

Aside from their usual lineup of productivity tools, one of the things I like about Google is how they go out of their way to produce cool stuff such as easter eggs and doodle games.

For this year’s Google I/O event (started yesterday, May 11th, and ends today, May 12th), they created a free online pinball game that features four characters representing the following Google products: Android, Chrome, Flutter, and Firebase. True to its theme, I/O Pinball implements the following elements: Chrome (web app), Flutter (software development), and Firebase (game hosting and scoreboard).

By the way, this game also happens to be open source so for those of you who are into programming and stuff or simply want to know or learn how the game was made, click on that link and check it out.

The game, I/O Pinball which features the four mascots mentioned earlier, is fun and quite addictive. It reminded me of the 3D Space Cadet Pinball game that came preinstalled on Windows computers (first introduced in Windows XP).

When you click on the link or start the game, the first thing you’ll see is the loading screen.

Loading Screen

After the initial load screen, you will be brought into the arcade room where the I/O Pinball game is located. (You can view the top 5 high scores)

Click on the Play button and then you’ll be asked to select from four different characters – Dash (Flutter), Sparky (Firebase), Android (Android), and Dino (Chrome).

Once you have selected your character, it will briefly show you the game controls. The game will show you the appropriate controls according to the device you are using.

Now you can go ahead and play I/O Pinball.

Go Play and Enjoy I/O Pinball

I don’t want to spoil the fun for you guys, but there are specific ways to get point multipliers and extra balls that will help you rack up a higher score.

The game can be played on desktop or laptop computers and also on mobile devices. It’s fun and the controls are very simple so I’m sure it is going to be a hit anywhere – at home, at school, or in the office. I bet everyone will be going at each other, trying to beat everyone else’s high scores and see who will take the top spot on the scoreboard.

Has anyone else tried the I/O Pinball game by Google? How do you like it? What’s the highest score you recorded? Please share your thoughts by leaving a comment below.
